2018 Bloopers

With the end of the year quickly coming to a close, I decided to compile a post on some blooper shots that were taken during a couple of the shoots I did this year. These bloopers usually came about when I was snapping pictures quickly and we would end up goofing around at some point or I would capture the image and not realize until I was looking through that we got some goofy shots.

I hope these shots provided you with some laughs, and I look forward to posting again next year!

Brady - Christmas Shoot 2018

Since Christmas is a few short days away, I decided to shoot some Christmas photographs of Brady. I waited until it was a bit darker outside, so that it wasn't too bright where I had him sitting in front of the tree. I had the tree lit up in the background of all of the shots and I also placed some presents near him in a few of the shots as well. I made sure to use my 50mm 1.8 Sony portrait lens in order to ensure that Brady would be the main focus of the photographs, and that the lights from the tree would produce a lovely bokeh effect, which I believe they did. Without further ado, here are Brady's 2018 Christmas portraits!

As you can see, I only took a few photographs because he was getting a bit antsy. I think these came out beautifully though and am so happy he at least posed for the few he did!

Mystic Adventures 2018

This week I decided to share some photographs that were taken at Mystic Aquarium throughout the year. Mystic is one of my favorite places to visit, and although I didn't get to go as much as I wanted to this year, I did get some pretty amazing photographs from when I did get to go. Instead of splitting the photographs up into separate post, I decided to just dedicate an entry to them for the end of the year, which is just about here. This year also marks the first time I used my new camera at Mystic, which resulted in better images than those I have gotten here previously!

If you look back at my first post from Mystic compared to this one now, you can see that I posted more indoor photographs of the ocean life. That is because the camera I have now is much better quality and was able to capture crisp clear images of the animals, whereas my other camera would not function in low light settings.

Holiday Fireplace Shoot

For this week's blog, I decided to do a Holiday themed shoot in front of the fireplace. We got Christmas string lights from the dollar store to use as a prop, and we already had the festive trees and Santa cup that we used as well. For her outfit, Emily wore a white turtleneck and had two different pairs of pajama pants - one long and one short, on her feet she put on a pair of cozy socks. We also put a big blanket down for some of the shots as well. We started out with all of the lights on, but when we brought out the Christmas lights, we decided to turn the overhead lights down so that the Christmas lights would be the main focus of the shots.

Do you think that we captured the Holiday spirit with these photographs?

Late Fall Fun

The photographs that are featured in today's blog were taken on Thanksgiving. Emily can be seen wearing a dress and shirt from American Eagle, and a pair of booties. We didn't really have a set theme for this shoot, other than to get a few cute photographs of her outfit. On this day, it was really windy and cold so it was a bit of a struggle to get good shots. What we did to try to beat the wind and coldness was go outside in bursts. So, we would go out and shoot a bunch of photos, go in to warm up and see what we had to work with, and then go out again. We did this a few times before we were happy with what I had captured. I will put some more tips for shooting in colder weather down below.

- When shooting in cold weather, you can shoot in bursts like I mentioned above. This works better when you're shooting in an area that has a building though. Here, we shot around our house, so we could quickly run back in to warm up.
- I would also recommend bringing a blanket, warm hat, and mittens along if you're shooting in a place where you can't get inside. In between takes, you can let your model cover herself up with the blanket and wear the hat and mittens.
- There are also little heat packets you can get to place inside shoes and mittens to keep the models hands and feet nice and toasty.
- Lastly, I would recommend shooting as many photographs as you can. This will ensure that even though it's freezing outside and you want to get the shoot over with quickly, you will get the shot you want out of all the ones you take.
